Roller Clutches

A roller clutch (also called a one-way roller clutch or one-way bearing) is a mechanical device that allows rotation in one direction while preventing rotation in the opposite direction. It uses cylindrical rollers positioned between an inner and outer raceway. When the shaft rotates in the “free” direction, the rollers move freely, allowing motion. When the shaft tries to rotate the other way, the rollers are wedged tightly between the races, locking the shaft and preventing reverse movement.
